Our guest for Cooking with Milwaukee Community Leaders is Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, who stops by to answer questions about his tenure as Milwaukee County Executive.
As a lifelong Milwaukee resident, County Executive David Crowley intimately understands the “tale of two counties” that exists within Milwaukee County. He has experienced both the struggles and the joys that shape the communities he serves. The guiding principle of Crowley's administration is to build bridges to unite people, rather than walls that divide them.
Raised in Milwaukee's 53206 neighborhood, David understood hardship from a young age. His family moved frequently, often due to evictions, and he lived with family members who struggled with mental illness and drug addiction. These experiences deeply inform his approach to public service today.
David tells us how he makes some tasty Chicken Parmesan sandwiches with roasted Broccoli. David got this recipe from Tim Burgess, one of the firefighters at the Milwaukee International Airport.

Laura Gutiérrez, CEO Of the United Community Center with Sopa de Fideo and Cheese Quesadillas

Our Guest Chef for Cooking with Milwaukee Community Leaders is Laura Gutiérrez.
Laura currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at the United Community Center here in Milwaukee, WI. Laura returned to the center after many years having previously worked in a variety of roles including Assistant Principal and Director of Instruction at Bruce Guadalupe Community School, as well as classroom teacher and a Drug Prevention Outreach worker when she was just a teen at UCC’s New Beginnings Clinic. She is on the list of the Top 100 Powerbrokers in Milwaukee
Laura shows us how she makes both Sopa de Fideo and Cheese Quesadillas. Sopa de Fideo, also known as Fideo Soup, is a traditional Mexican dish that features thin noodles cooked in a broth with various seasonings. It is a simple and comforting soup that is popular in Mexican households and is often served as a quick and easy meal.

Caitlin Cullen, Kinship Community Food Center Interview and Chicken Pot Pie

Our guest for Cooking with Milwaukee Community Leaders is Caitlin Cullen. Caitlin is an educator, chef, entrepreneur, and activist who uses food to help dismantle wealth and health disparities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Previously the owner of Tandem, a social enterprise restaurant, she has always strived to improve the lives of others in the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
In the pandemic, Chef Caitlin Cullen of the Tandem gave away 125,000 meals to people in need, which also helped keep more than four dozen restaurants she recruited for the project afloat. And then she gave away one last thing. Her restaurant.
Caitlin shows us how he makes Chicken Pot Pie.

Congresswoman Gwen Moore Interview and Stuffed Roasted Bell Peppers

In this week's "Cooking with Milwaukee Community Leaders" segment, we speak with Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-4), Congresswoman for Milwaukee in the US House of Representatives. Rep Moore is a 10-term congresswoman and the dean of the Wisconsin delegation. She is not only a Milwaukee Community Leader, she is a National Community Leader.
Congresswoman Moore shows us how she makes Roasted Bell Peppers. They are stuffed with Spanish Rice and Black Beans, and topped with Monterey Jack Cheese. The rice is cooked with Vegetable stock. Then it is added to a tomato-based aromatic broth with garlic and onions.

Bria Grant Exec Director UNITEWI and Fried Green Tomato BLTs

Bria Grant is our guest for "Cooking with Milwaukee Community Leaders". Bria shows us how she puts these Fried Green Tomatoes together and prepares a tasty Remoulade Sauce for the BLTs.
As the Executive Director of UNITEWI, Bria is passionate about improving the health outcomes of populations by addressing social determinants of health and strengthening the workforce of Community Health Workers (CHWs). With a Bachelor's degree in Human Services from Springfield College and over 20 years of experience in business consulting, community development, strategic planning, and workforce development, Bria has developed and implemented strategies that promote health equity and social justice in Wisconsin and beyond.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson Interview and McDonalds Breakfast Sandwiches

Our guest for Cooking with Milwaukee Community Leaders is Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. Mayor Johnson took office as Acting Mayor of the City of Milwaukee in late 2021 and set out immediately to build a safer city. He has prioritized violence reduction, economic development, and roadway safety. Before taking on his role as Acting Mayor, Johnson served as Common Council President while representing the city’s 2nd Aldermanic District.
In April of 2022, Mayor Johnson was elected as the forty-fifth chief executive of the City of Milwaukee, winning with more than seventy percent of the vote. He is the first Black Mayor elected in the city and only the fourth elected mayor in the past sixty-two years.
